Fissure Sealants

What Are Fissure Sealants?

A fissure sealant is a preventative treatment where a thin, protective coating (clear or tooth-coloured) is applied to the biting surfaces of back teeth. These teeth often have natural grooves where food and bacteria can easily collect.

Sealants help create a smoother surface that is easier to keep clean, reducing the risk of decay in areas where acids and sugars can otherwise stagnate.

Who Are Fissure Sealants For?

Fissure sealants are most commonly recommended for:

  • Children as their adult molars develop
  • Patients with naturally deep grooves in their teeth
  • Those at higher risk of tooth decay
  • Adults who may benefit from additional protection

The Treatment Experience

Applying fissure sealants is:

  • Completely pain-free
  • Non-invasive (no drilling required)
  • Quick and comfortable
  • Usually completed in around 10 minutes per tooth

Most children and adults find the process very easy to tolerate.

Our Preventative Philosophy

Fissure sealants are a small preventative step that can make a meaningful difference in protecting teeth during cavity-prone years.

By protecting vulnerable areas early, we help maintain strong, healthy teeth for the future.
